Flying

I started learning to fly in March 2002 at the North Shore Aero Club.

Here I am beside one of the Cessna 152's in which I do my training. This picture was taken just before my second training flight.

It is a lovely day at the North Shore Airfield where I am learning to fly. I usually dislike cloudless sunny days, since the excessive heat is most unpleasant while doing things such as walking through the hot city streets. However, when I am flying I will learn to love such days, because you don't seem to feel the heat in the aeroplane, the view is wonderful, and of course the visibility and clear sky are essential for VFR flight.

Flying has been a dream of mine for many years, although I had never been in an aircraft of any description at all. But I just knew that flying was the very thing for me. I went for my first flight ever (in any kind of aircraft) in mid-March 2002, and it was exactly as I thought it would be. Very beautiful and wonderful. Flying seems natural to me; it is as if, perhaps, I did fly once, a long, long time ago, and those distant memories are just now being gently brought back.

Latest developments

Alas, I have been so busy that I have not had time to fly for a while. I now intend to keep flying every week or two, but I am not sure when I will have time to complete my private pilot's license (PPL), although I certainly intend to do so eventually.
