My chess set

Unfortunately, I seldom have any opportunity to play chess. However, against the possibility that some day this sad state of affairs may change, I bought myself a chess set.

The very nice board is from Spain. It has 2" squares and is constructed of rosewood and maple. I have two sets of pieces, a standard Staunton set from India and an Alice in Wonderland set made, happily, in England. (Remember that Through the Looking Glass is a chess game.) The Staunton set is rose and boxwood and weighted. The Alice set is of moulded crushed marble and alabaster. (Click on pictures below to see larger one.)

The standard set

The Staunton set and board.

Again.

And again.

The Alice set

The ranks of the white pieces.

Close-up depicting the Rabbit as the pawns, the Mad Hatter as the bishop, the King and of course Alice as the queen.

Here we see the the White Knight and Tweedle-dum, or as the case may be, Tweedle-dee.

Here the White Rabbit, the Mad Hatter and Tweedle-dum (or Tweedle-dee) have their picture taken.

And in this scene the King and Queen pose for a photograph.

The White Knight

The White Knight marches Left,

Right,

And straight-ahead,

Before going to do battle with the Crimson Knight,

And away towards the Bend in the Road,

And into the sunset in the land of the Dictionary.
